Put on a Bus: Kaban separated from Serval in between seasons 1 and 2 in order to make room for Kyururu.Only Known by Their Nickname: Only known as Kaban.She sacrifices herself to save Serval in Episode 11.But Lion wasn't even dreaming about eating any of them and the whole stern leader attitude was just a front. When they were interrogated by Lion, Kaban was ready to be eaten in Serval's stead.Line-of-Sight Name: Kaban is named by Serval for the backpack she is wearing ("kaban" being Japanese for "bag").Chekhov's Skill: Learns tree-climbing from Serval, which comes in handy a few times later.Catchphrase: "Tabenaide kudasai!!" (Please don't eat me!) Becomes a Brick Joke during season 2 when Serval and Caracal find Kyururu, uttered by the two feline Friends.Boyish Short Hair: With a bit of Messy Hair.Big Damn Heroes: Was initially absent in the first five episodes of Season 2, but then returns in episode 6 to rescue Kyururu from a tiger Friend.As it turns out, she didn't have much history to begin with, being some hair that was still attached to Mirai's lost hat. Amnesiac Hero: She woke up having no idea who or what she is.She was supposed to revert to the original animal she was based on.which was, well, human. This is also the reason why she survives being inside the Cellien. Artificial Human: Kaban is actually a human Friend born from Sandstar coming in contact with a hair that was on Mirai's hat.Her hair has grown enough to fit into a ponytail and her hat is tattered. Adrenaline Makeover: In her season 2 appearance, she looks much more mature and adult.She's effectively a successor to the original franchise's Mirai character, being literally born with (and from) Mirai's hat. Although she can't fly, climb or swim as well as the other Friends, she is incredibly resourceful and quick-thinking. She suddenly woke up one day in Japari Park not knowing where she or who she was, and set off on an adventure through the park to learn what kind of Friend she was. It also helps that they are essentially human for the most part and can now eat a wider variety of food such as curry. This allows carnivores and omnivores to be friends with herbivores without all that awkward killing and eating that would hurt friendships. Vegetarian Carnivore: All the Friends eat Japari buns, which are found everywhere.Beasts seem to have this form by default, making them more dangerous.All of the Friends excluding Kaban exhibit this in Episode 12. Apparently, every Friend has access to a wild side, which makes them stronger in some way.Some rules apply to subspecies or color variants. Single Specimen Species: Only one of each species of Friends appear in the anime, with the exception of Serval with Kaban and Serval with Mirai.This could explain why some of the Friends are extinct animals. Our Zombies Are Different: The Sandstar can apparently turn the remains of animal into Friends.This is one of the features that makes Kaban stand out. Never Learned to Read: Friends are incapable of reading.In a bit of Played for Drama, some Friends end up more animal than human, becoming Beasts instead. Little Bit Beastly: Friends are essentially human with some features of whatever animal they were previously.Improbably Female Cast: All the known characters besides Kyururu are female or non-organic.However, the Beast (Amur Tiger) is said to have only 1/10 of the other Friends lifespans despite having lived for what is apparently 2,000 years.As long as they are not killed or absorbed by Celliens, they can essentially live forever. Episode 1 of season 2 fully confirms that Friends are biologically immortal. Immortality: Although supplemental material had suggested it for years.Furry Reminder: Even in their new form, Friends still exhibit behaviors of their original species.Fur Is Clothing: Played With all Friends fall into Little Bit Beastly territory and wear human clothes, but they refer to their clothing as "fur" and are unaware that they can take it off until Kaban points it out to them.Fossil Revival: The Sandstar can create Friends from animal remains, effectively becoming this.
